Dear Dr. Archer,I always feel anxious every time I'm in a crowd. It's to the point that it seems like everyone is looking at me. Am I crazy or just anxious?
Vince
Dear Vince,
Many people who are anxious get the feeling they're going insane, but that is not the case. Just by the fact that you are aware of your anxiousness and that it concerns you tells me you're not crazy.
You may worry excessively or have a tremendous amount of stress. My advice, Vince, is to try and eliminate as much stress in your life as possible. Please read another letter I received, "
I Get Nervous In Crowds And Driving Over Bridges," which, although it deals with panic attacks, talks about breathing and relaxation techniques which can benefit you.
If, after you practice the techniques I recommend, you still cannot relax on your own, you may benefit from an anti anxiety medication. Good luck, Vince.
Dr. Archer
