Dear Dr. Archer,
I'm glad my new Facebook friend led me to your page. I have struggled with addiction to alcohol and drugs for years. I just celebrated 17 months clean and sober. Only 2 days ago we lost a beautiful friend who could not figure out how to live in recovery with these addictions.
Last night my family lost another friend, a Hollywood legend who was family to us. Times like these make me appreciate those who make careers of these issues.
Currently I work in a sober living environment (not a half-way house) for those recently incarcerated. I teach typing, computer skills, resume and job search assistance. I am re-establishing my own career in the tourism industry.
Thanks and please add me to your Facebook page or newsletter list.
Tom
Dear Tom,
Congratulations on staying clean and sober, Tom! Considering your lifelong struggle, this sobriety is indeed worthy of celebration. As you noted, not everyone makes the successful journey from addiction to sobriety.
My condolences on your recent losses. Cherish your memories and use them as tools to honor your friends and continue your success. Give back, be compassionate and empathetic, encourage, and listen. We all have stories to tell and are looking for a caring ear to listen and help.
I have added you to our newsletter list and will look for you on Facebook and Twitter.
Dr. Archer
