Salimah's 17 year old daughter is going through severe depression. They tried a medication and a counselor, but she's still depressed. She used to be a very bright student, but now she doesn't care. She doesn't understand why; there's no reason her daughter should be depressed. Do you have something to offer this concerned mom?

Elizabeth is concerned about her 64 year old mother. She can't remember anything, has the same conversation several times a day, forgets what TV she's watched after 10 minutes, forgets how to pay bills and even forgets her grandchildren's names.

Danna's 20 year old son has been diagnosed with depression. Now he doesn't want to return to work and he refuses to go to counseling. She is besides herself, because she cannot pay his bills. She asks how to MAKE him help himself or should she just kick him out?

Lois has a 22 year old son who has been diagnosed with Asperger's. He was in a college program and they told her he was exhibiting inappropriate behavior. She's new to Florida and is leery of putting him in a program she doesn't know anything about, but all he does is spend his days and nights playing video games. He won't listen to her and she is at a loss. She asks for help. Thoughts?

Donna has been given temporary custody of her 15 year old nephew. He has delusions, suicidal thoughts, anger, paranoia and is a danger to himself and others. His mother told him he was possessed, which he believes. His father goes along with everything so his son is not upset. She wants to get mental health help for her nephew, but how, when her custody will run out soon? Thoughts?

Sherry has an 8 year old daughter who can go 4 and 5 nights without sleeping. She has been in a mental institution three times, and has rages where she bites others. She has seizures, ADHD, PDD-NOS, mood disorders among other things, and mom is so sad. She cannot find help for her daughter, and doesn't want her to be on adult medication that turns her into a zombie. Do you have words of inspiration for this mom?

Stacey had a son. At 17 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and by current protocol measures, had a 90 percent chance for full recovery. However, her husband refused traditional medical treatment and was obsessed that an organic and holistic diet would cure him. It did not, and he died. Now she is left angry and wanting to spread the word of her story. Do you believe in modern medicine?

Lena has lived in Europe for 30 years. Back home in Brazil, her sister, an M.D. has been the sole supporter of their parents, in their 80's, even paying for their healthcare, sitters and taking Dad to doctors. She thinks her sister can afford it, plus she doesn't feel at home in Brazil anymore. Her sister wants her to come home to help out with their care. She told her sister after all these years, she doesn't want to live in Brazil. Her life is in Europe. What do you think of this?

Julia feels her 4 year old daughter must have some mental issues, but she can't find a doctor who will treat her because of her age. She has a severe intolerance to fructose, and loses her mind whenever she ingests some. She asks what she should do. Got any ideas?

Tracie is very concerned about her 20 year old son. He began abusing drugs as a senior in high school, and now he is emaciated and has a constant blank stare. His doctor has not been able to find a psychiatrist who is still taking patients and her son has lost his university scholarship. Now she isn't sure how to proceed. Do you have suggestions for her?

Anne and her sister have aging parents, 81 and 79, and it's time to make some tough decisions. Dad can't seem to keep his finances straight, and it's time for the sister to step in with her Power of Attorney and make sure her parents are cared for while making their finances secure at this stage in their lives. But Dad has gotten furious with them both and is yelling and screaming and now they feel terrible. What's the right thing to do?

Caroline's 5 year old autistic child was prescribed Adderall XR 10 mg. She thought it a high dose, considering some horror stories she had heard, but felt the doctor must know what he's talking about. Severe reactions resulted, with the normally quiet child screaming in pain and confusion. Talking after hours, the doctor on call, immediately stopped the medication. Now she questions -- should she continue with this doctor, or find someone else? What would you do if this were your child?

Ever since his traumatic brain injury, he has been angry and unhappy. I know the drugs were from the car accident. He has no memory about things that happened before his accident.

The challenge we are faced with now is that our daughter needs to be on a mood stabilizer. Sounds easy, but it's not. Amber is extremely sensitive to all meds. We really need to stabilize her somehow, and her neurologist is quite leery of trying anything else without the advice of a psychiatrist.

My son has had two suicide attempts. I brought him to a psychiatrist who gave him some medication. I don't know what to do about his enuresis and I believe his father puts too much pressure on him and makes everything worse.

Parents need to ensure their child's safety by consulting with the physician for a referral to a neurologist to rule out any neurological disorders.
