Dear Dr. Archer,
Could you please give me the names of several psychiatrists in Baton Rouge, Louisiana? My 30 year old daughter and I have been diagnosed as bipolar. We have been treated for years, but our doctors either moved out of state or retired to write a book.
This is a huge problem for us, and we would greatly appreciate your help. Do you know anyone in the area that does Life Coaching?

Dear Carmen,
I'm surprised your retiring or relocating physicians didn't supply you with their recommendations for continuing your mental health care. I do not recommend specific doctors or medications on this site. A few ways to find a new doctor:
**Call your local hospitals' ER. Baton Rouge has many excellent hospitals, and talking to the ER staff, who knows first hand the psychiatrists and how they work with patients, can provide you with several key names.
**Ask a friend/neighbor. Many people see a psychiatrist these days. Just ask, you’ll be surprised.
**Contact the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association, which can supply you with names, addresses, phone numbers and specialties.
**Ask your family doctor; he's used to making referrals for patients. That said, you could ask any doctor, regardless of his specialty. Most doctors know others they recommend in various specialties.
